  • Where to find Pen to Thread

Hey all! This glorious morning I did my typical 'oh, out of coffee, what to do now' boredom google search, and took a look for Pen to Thread. I love seeing what's out there, and was super happy to see that one of my favorite stores is carrying Pen to Thread. So I thought I'd compile a little list of where you can find the book, incase you want to see it in person, or something like that.

    Barnes & Noble

    Purl Soho

    The Village Haberdashery

    Nordic Needle

    Keepsake Needle Arts

    Also, reviews here:

    Knitting Scholar

If you have Pen to Thread for sale in your online or brick and morter store, I'd love to know, shoot me an email ( and I'll add you to the list. Also, it's very important to me that people share what they think of the book, because feedback helps me create a better product the next time, so if you have a review, please let me know and I'll add you to this list as well.

Post any of your great embroideries with #pentothread to show the world (and me!) what you've been up to.

  • Check out Pen to Thread

Hey world!!! How's it hanging? Life treating you okay? I hope so. Holiday planning is on it's way, and gift planning will be starting soon...or has already started. I totally recommend homemade gifts, I think it's the nicest way to share a piece of yourself. But what if you just don't feel crafty? What if you're usually the recipient (time to pick up embroidery, but more on that later)? What to give that crafter in your life? How about Pen to Thread?!?! My new embroidery motif book, perfect for sewers, quilters and crafters of all sorts. Embroidery is the thread that binds us, right? Check it out on, as well as It doesn't actually come out until January, so it'll have to be a belated holiday gift. But the best belated gift I bet you'll give (or get!).

More photos to come soon, keep an eye out.

Oh it's here, it's here! Is it Christmas? Birthday? Nah, c'mon folks, get with the program. The most incredible, exciting news of my day is the cover of my newest book, Pen to Thread! I can share it with you guys, and that just makes my day. In fact, my week....mostly likely month. Perhaps even season (not year, because the book will come out, that'll make my year!)

Writing this book has been such a fun experience, I can't wait to show more to you all, and to see what people make once the book is out. Pen to Thread is published by Interweave Press. They're an incredibly talented and creative team, and have been a dream to work with. Some of the other incredible books they've got are Every Last Piece by Lynn Harris (who I had the pleasure of meeting a few years ago, in person), By the Block by Siobahn Rogers (you should see her instagram feed!), and Vintage Quilt Revival by Faith Jones, Katie Clark Blakesly, and Lee Heinrich.

As you may know, a lot of things like this are done far in advanced (writing a book, that is), and so the whole time you're working on it you want to tell people, but aren't allowed! It's torture, I tell you.

I was pregnant with my first kid (who is 9 months old now) the majority of the time I was writing Pen to Thread. I spent hours in line at doctor's offices embroidering these motifs. It really reaffirmed how hand embroidery is. I love to keep projects near me all the time, I have them in little drawstring bags that I've sewn out of my fabric all over the house. Just like sewing works in progress, I always have embroidery WIPs hanging around. And I've really worked hard to explain how you can use these motifs, not only embroider for the fun of it, but put them out into the world. There's a whole section on how to use your finished art. I really can't wait to share more with you. Alas.... for now, just the cover. But don't you LOVE it????

  • Pen to Thread Pre-Order

    Pen to Thread Pre-Order

Hi folks! I'm so excited and proud to announce that my first hand embroidery motif book, Pen to Thread, is now available for pre-order on Amazon! If you've been following me on instagram over the last year or so, you've probably noticed a lot of embroidery, line drawings and thread. Well finally the cat is out of the bag. Follow this link to place your order now!

The book has over 500 beautiful hand embroidery motifs from categories such as Americana, Florals, By the Sea...and so many more. It also has a great section of labels and borders, which I personally plan to use on a regular basis. And lastly, there's a great section of alphabets, perfect for monograms, framed art and more. All of the designs are hand drawn by me, from my imagination and sketchbook. I also embroidered over 200 of the motifs so you can see how they will look finished. As for now I can't share too many images from the book, but as soon as I can, better believe I'll share them! Above is a work in progress from the Florals chapter of Pen to Thread.

If you have any questions about the pre-order page, or about the book in general, please feel free to contact me at For more about the book, follow #pentothread.
